Maintenance

Easy Care:

Rubio Monocoat care and maintenance is easy and simple, especially when compared to other oil and hard-wax oil finishes.

Once cured simply clean the finish when necessary;
  • Option 1: Vacuum just as you would any other finish
  • Option 2: Damp mop with water - unlike other oil finishes Rubio Monocoat does not need to be "fed" with cleaners that contain oils.
  • Option 3: Damp mop with Surface Care Spray or Natural Soap.  These are our cleaners specifically designed to clean the finish and not leave a residue behind.  Surface Care is ready-to-use.  Natural Soap is concentrated and when mixed with water becomes Surface Care Spray
  • Option 4: Want a little more sheen?  Use Satin Soap or High Traffic Protection.  These cleaning products leave a residue that adds a little luster to the finish.
  • VERY IMPORTANT - Do not use any cleaners other than those produced by Rubio Monocoat as most of these are too harsh and will strip the protective properties of the finish.

Renovation or Rejuvenation:

At some time in the future, just like any other finish, you will start to see signs of wear.  This is normal and can be addressed with either of the following products;
  • Refresh - This product addresses textural issues.
  • Maintenance Oil - This product comes in all of our Oil Plus Colors and addresses the textural and color issues.

Surface Care Spray
Rubio Monocoat Surface Care is a ready-to-use cleaning product for the weekly or monthly care of surfaces treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus. Also suitable for the easy cleaning of localized stains. PACKAGING: Available in a 750 ml spray bottle. Do not use this product without consulting the full instruction and technical sheet.

Natural Soap

Rubio Monocoat Natural Soap is used to clean wood finished with Rubio Monocoat natural oil finish. Natural Soap comes concentrated and can be used whenever necessary.  Weekly maintenance with Rubio Monocoat Soap helps maintain our natural matt finish.

Satin Soap

Rubio Monocoat Satin Soap is a cleaning system that increases the sheen of our natural oil finish. 

Instructions:

  1. APPLY FULL STRENGTH at a rate of about 250 square feet liter. This is accomplished by damp mopping a layer on, allowing to dry 90 minutes then repeat until you have the desired spread rate and look.
  2. CLEAN when desired by dry mop, vacuum, sweep or damp mop this surface with a mixture of Soap Satin and water (40 parts water to 1 part Soap Satin). This damp mopping will slowly break down the finish with each cleaning.
  3. RE-APPLY FULL STRENGTH - at some point in the future after multiple cleanings, the Soap Satin layer can start to look dry, cloudy, dirty, etc...  At this point you will re-apply Soap Satin full strength to bring the look back.

High Traffic Protection
Rubio Monocoat High Traffic Protection is a cleaning product that leaves a higher sheen and offers a little extra protection for wood floors in heavy traffic areas.
 
Instructions;
 
APPLY FULL STRENGTH
1. Damp mop  High Traffic Protection directly on Monocoat finish. (full strength)
2. Allow this layer to dry for 90 minutes.
3. If increased sheen is desired you may apply a second coat.
 
CLEANING WITH HIGH TRAFFIC PROTECTION
1. Mix High Traffic Protection concentrate with water - 1 part High Traffic Protection to 40 parts water.
2. Damp mop the floor with this mixture.
3. Allow the finish to dry.

REAPPLICATION
1. Occasionally it may be desirable to re-apply the High Traffic Protection full strength.

RMC LimeSpot Remover
Rubio Monocoat LimeSpot Remover is a ready-to-use product that removes lime spots from a surface treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus.

RMC Grease Remover
Rubio Monocoat Grease Remover is a ready-to-use product that removes recent grease stains from a surface treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus. The product should be applied immediately after the stain occurs thereby preventing the grease from penetrating the surface.

RMC Refresh
Rubio Monocoat Refresh is a ready-to-use product, in spray or can, that refreshes, restores and protects surfaces treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus. Rubio Monocoat Refresh is used when the surface feels too dry or rough, or when the finish has worn off due to heavy traffic.

When the colour of the surface needs to be restored, we recommend a treatment with Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil, using the corresponding colour of the treated surface.
Rubio Monocoat Refresh is just as effective when used on other oiled or varnished surfaces.

RMC Maintenance Oil
Rubio Monocoat Maintenance Oil is a ready-to-use product that was developed to care for parquet floors treated with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus. This treatment restores and intensifies both the colour and the durability of the floor. Intervals for maintaining the floor vary according to how much wear the floor is getting. It is recommended that this treatment be carried out just before the protective oil, Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus, shows signs of fading. Available in the full range of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus complimentary colours.

RMC Exterior Refresh
Rubio Monocoat Exterior Refresh is a revitalising treatment oil that was developed for the maintenance of exterior wood that has been treated with a product from the Rubio Monocoat Exterior range (Decking-Oil, Siding-Oil). Existing hairline cracks can be reprotected from UV damage and water in order to ensure long-lasting protection.
